Karim Shehimi’s poster was mostly centered around libel and lies. The emergence of fake news and the phenomena of how trump was able to get to power intrigued him. Shehimi’s main inspiration was Donald Trump’s body language. Trump’s phonetics and the way he uses his mouth to lie were massive sources of inspiration to Shehimi. Trump’s mouth became a mascot.
Shehimi mentions that although LAU currently does not give any classes solely about poster design, theoretical classes such as history of graphic design and visual perception were great sources. These classes taught us how posters can be seen as social commentary and how they become a separate art form.
Karim Shehimi advises design students to remain up to date with world news on daily basis, to keep up with design trends, and to buy books as the internet is not the only source of information. Shehimi says that “ the more you read, the more you know, and the more you learn.”
