Fashion Trust Arabia, the non-profit fashion fund launched last year to support Arab designers in the Middle East and North Africa, announced six winners of its inaugural prize March 28th.

 

Salim Azzam, an instructor in the graphic design department, was a winner in the ready-to-wear category. The FTA judging panel included 25 industry veterans, among them Net-a-Porter founder and now managing partner at VC firm Imaginary Dame Natalie Massenet; Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli; designer Victoria Beckham; and Moncler chairman and chief executive Remo Ruffini.

The new course of “Graphic Design in the Middle East” aims to explain various graphic design works from the Middle East and to examine the evolving design styles and their relationship to economy, technology and pop culture in the Middle East. Through field trips, students were able to fully examine traditional and contemporary graphic design work in or about the Middle East and North Africa region.

For the consecutive fourth year, Byblos graphic design students are shortlisted for Dubai Lynx competitions. 

In a continuously growing entry numbers in the Integrated Competition, Sarah Abdel Jalil and Amira Imadi were 2 out of 8 talents that were shortlisted from the MENA region. 

And with over 300 entries in the Print Competition, Elie Matta was the 1 out of 9 shortlisted in the MENA region.

On December 10th, the Rima Hourani Exhibition Hall at the Byblos Campus hosted the 99 Posters exhibition. The space was filled with cleverly designed posters putting into practice various design pillars like typography, layout, grid structure, color and composition. Other than showcasing design principles, these posters paid tribute to Lebanese women that left their trace on society.

Alumnus and instructor Bahij Jaroudi’s skills has won him many awards including the 2015 Mahmoud Kahil Award for best graphic illustrator in the Arab world and the 2013 KITABI Award for Arab Children's Literature.
